Trekking Through Fairy Glen: An Enchanted Journey to the Falls

Hey fellow adventurers! Today, I'm excited to share our escapade to Fairy Glen Falls, nestled in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Get ready for a tale of muddy trails, whimsical discoveries, and the enchanting allure of this hidden gem!

Fairy Glen Falls is located in the Scottish Highlands, near the village of Rosemarkie on the Black Isle peninsula. There is parking available at the Fairy Glen Car Park (located at Fortrose IV10 8UP, United Kingdom).

The terrain around Fairy Glen Falls can be muddy, especially after rainfall. Hikers should be prepared for slippery and uneven surfaces, particularly on the trail leading to the falls. The hike to the falls is approximately 1.5 miles long and includes steep sections and some stairs, adding a thrilling challenge to the adventure.

Our journey to Fairy Glen Falls began with a promise of adventure and a knowing 'we're going to be so dirty,' yet not knowing how right and wrong we were! (hint: definitely dirtier). Setting foot on the trail, we were greeted by winding paths flanked by lush greenery, painting a picture of untouched wilderness. Though we weren't 'knee-deep,' the trail was incredibly muddy, adding an extra element of excitement to our trek...but not the fun kind!

As we carefully made our way through the muddy terrain, our senses were serenaded by the symphony of nature – leaves rustling, birds chirping, and water gently flowing nearby.

But the adventure didn't end there! Deeper into our hike, we stumbled upon a delightful surprise – logs adorned with shiny coins, each one carrying someone's silent wish. It was such a cool sight! It made us realize how many hikers must have contributed to create these promise-filled treasures. With excitement and a touch of hope, we tossed our own coins into the mix, perhaps aiming to sprinkle a bit of magic onto our wishes too 🤞.

The path leads across a wooden bridge, ascending the far bank. You pass a millpond on the right. I definitely spent a little time trying to spot some fish in water! Continuing onward, another bridge crosses the stream. Just ahead, the first of Fairy Glen's waterfalls awaits—a picturesque twin cascade. Climbing steps to the left of the falls, hikers navigate a steep slope with the aid of a rope handrail (and I definitely held on for dear life!).

At the falls, we took our time 'oohing and aahing' and taking multiple upon multiple pictures before turning back for our return journey. Because why not take a moment to savor getting to your final destination before ending it abruptly!?

We did notice a rope swing near the lake, but the path seemed a bit precarious, and we decided against any unplanned dips into the chilly waters! It did seem like it would've been a blast to play on, though 😁. Perhaps during the warmer summer months, it'll be the perfect spot for some fun.

Navigating the abundance of mud on this hike proved challenging. I experienced a slip on our way back, resulting in a few bruises (fortunately, nothing serious, aside from getting quite dirty, remember the 'hint' earlier, lol). But even amidst the mishaps, the allure of Fairy Glen Falls remained undiminished, a testament to the enduring spirit of adventure.

So, if you're craving a muddy, magical, and utterly unforgettable experience, Fairy Glen Falls is the place to be. Just remember to pack your sense of wonder and your spirit of adventure (and maybe a change of clothes...and definitely a bag to store your dirtys in the car afterward) – you never know what incredible surprises await you in the untamed beauty of Scotland! 🌿✨
