Whenever I’m leaving the house for a few days, I prefer to return to a clean and nice-smelling home! There's nothing worse than coming back from a trip, only to think, “What died in here?!” I know this all too well.
I always create a packing list before leaving town to ensure I have everything. Making a new list each time risks forgetting items. By saving a list on your computer or phone, you can keep it updated and edit as needed.
So why not create one comprehensive list for house prep and packing? This way, everything is in one place!
That's what I did. I built the list based on our most common activities (hiking/walking trips) as well as house prep. Now, no more returning home to a smelly house! And that's the best part.
Next, I printed and laminated the list for reusable convenience. A dry erase marker enables me to mark items as packed, and erase them afterward for the next trip.

We usually leave our dog at home due to pet restrictions, but for dog-friendly trips, we include his essentials in the packing list for his comfort.

I don’t bring my dog bowls (I don’t have travel ones), but instead bring some cheap Tupperware dishes. They’re smaller, which means taking less space and they also have lids so I can fill them up as well!
For me, I now just keep the “Pet” checklist printed out. That way if he comes with us, I have a list of what I need to bring, and if he doesn’t, I can ignore it.
I always keep my list handy on the side of my fridge!
